One upon a time Sound Lab made electrostatic subs that were supposedly awesome. I never had the pleasure. They were intented for (optional) use with early model A-1's. Anyway, when they went to an improved (longer-excursion) full-range system, the need for the sub was no longer there. So they were discontinued.
If the 20.1 has significantly better bass than the 20 because it's push-pull (which I had thought only applied to the midrange), then sit tight Maggie fans because that technology is likely to trickle down to the future 3.7, 1.7, and so forth.
In the meantime check out the great Sigfried Linkwitz's site at the link below. Mr. Linkwitz offers DIY plans for a dynamic dipole subwoofer, mentioned by Harvey in an archived post. Even if you aren't interested in building a sub, go to the "Room acoustics" page because it is very informative reading for all us dipole fans.
I seem to recall somebody making a dynamic dipole called the "Enigma" in maybe the early 80's. I used Gradient "subs", dynamic dipoles, with my Quads. I say "subs" because they didn't go much below 35 Hz, but did integrate well.
Have any of you built dipole subs to use with your Maggies? I'd be very interested in hearing about your experiences.
Best wishes to you all.
