Hey guys-

This is weird. The midrange/tweeter section of my
new XO's seem fine (see newly posted 3.5R schematic). The Bass segment of it, however, is acting mighty funky. As I was hooking them up, I noticed the caps singing along to the music. Today, as I was messing with them I disconnected the tails going to the panels and
guess what? They kept singing. Actually transducing quite loudly.

The bass section of the XO is a simple pi filter with the
5.6 mH inductor as the left top of the "T", the 1.7 mH as the
right top of the "T", and the 275 uF of caps as the vertical of
the "T" (left as input, right as output). The original XO had (2) 2.8 mH in series (space issue in the stock XO, I believe) to equal the 5.6 mH. Now, that shunted
275 uF of caps is a boatload, but this is a very simple XO, and
I'm certain nothing is built incorrectly.

I replaced the stock XO and the Bass caps in it also sang, but not as loudly. The bass sound ridiculously low in level, and
distorted. Right now, both XO's are sitting in the system with
no tails, singing right along. I hope this is some sort of odd
break-in thing, but I'm a little concerned.

Any tech gurus who can shed a little light on this strangeness
would be of great help. The caps are all Solen 400V metalized
poly-propylene. I can't tell if they're getting better or not.

Ideas?

Scott
