Scott--There is an Altec message board. I'm here from idle curiosity, just surfing. All Altec speakers can be remagnetized and reconed and replacement diaphragms for compression drivers are easily obtained and install in 5 minutes. Great Plains Audio in Oklahoma recenty quoted me a price of only $75 each to remagnetize (Alnico magnets lose 10-15% strength over a long time) and recone my 1957 803A woofers to 416s using Altec parts. The 416 was an improved 803 with a corrugated surround instead of a paper roll, deeper bass you see. But as the 803s still work it's hard to bestir myself to send them in. Note I'm not running down the sound of Maggies.
